Doctor Who - Laser Screwdriver
Pretty much the first time I did something completely in only one day! (a tote bag for the release).

I used this stencil, a very high resolution version is up for download *searches* here (I adore the person who made this, by the way)

I cut it out (took me about two-three hours not including the breaks I took to regain feeling in my arm) - you can also see here how I cut the straps of the bag - I'm going to sew the two into one to make it longer, otherwise it didn't fit over my robe sleeve.

Ironed it on to the bag...

Start painting

Make sure to get all the details...

and done!

in action...

and a close-up. I don't even think I need to color the bridges, you can hardly notice!

and my robe, made... oh, over two years ago? no, just under two years ago. I was planning on remaking it but time and motivation were both lacking. you can barely notice how I forgot to put the hood on until the entire thing was sewn and therefore have an ugly seam showing... (first ever sewing project, what can I say)

Finally put the frog closure on today :). I don't have a patch, but I ordered one last week and am hoping it gets here in time *crosses fingers* - I already have my tie from when I first made the robe, and the rest of the basic costume (shirt/pants).

Two questions: (1) What else should I put on the bag? if anything (I'm leaning toward nothing or some pins from nancy buttons)? (& 2) I've never done the midnight release thing, so I'm going (alone :( ) to Borders this time - when should I go? when are you going?
two days! *freaks out* haha...

I'm going to try and be there a little after 9:30 as that's when they're opening their doors. Here's hoping for winning some free stuff!

free stuff is always good, haha. ok, it seems like everyone's been saying 9:30ish, I'll probably go then.

Thanks :-) How about adding some bold Slytherin stripes, green and silver, or even just silver lined in thin green, on the bag for accent.

What Borders are you hitting up?
20th-Jul-2007 12:18 am (UTC)
oh, just a local one - in Stony Brook, NY (I live on Long Island). I would've gone into NYC but I'm not so comfortable going into the city alone.
oh, and thanks for the idea.

Wow! Amazing bag! Must have taken A LOT of patience to make the stencil! ^^

I'll be getting there just before 9:30 and waiting outside the doors. Here's to the literary event of the century! -waves flag-

thanks! it took time, but it wasn't so bad. I just kept taking breaks.

Well done. Another way, perhaps easier, to do it:
1 print out on tracing paper
2 on the back of the paper, draw over the design with iron-on transfer pen (available at craft stores)
3 iron on. If necessary, go over it with fabric pen

re: Borders. The email I got invited me to come as early as 9am Friday to pick up my wristband. The party starts at 9pm at my store.

I was thinking of doing something like that, but I didn't want to marker it on as I was afraid it might look uneven.

ah, my email didn't say when it started, everything just keeps saying 'friday evening'...
thanks!
