Bellatrix Death Eater Mask
21st-Aug-2007 02:51 am
HP; Black
Yay!! Step one of my Bellatrix costume is done!

A five dollar mask is your friend.

Time to remove those lips and turn them into something sinister.

Simple gray paint, applied with a foam brush. I didn't make it evenly colored on purpose to give it a battered look.

Draw some swirls, draw some swirls....la la la laaaa.... I drew the design around the nose as big as I could to make the nose seem wider, as the nose on her mask is.

More painting!! Mixed brown and black together to make a rusty sort of color. Picture doesn't really do it justice.

Pretty pleased with the way it turned out. It should look wicked with the dress hood up.

Besides making my mask, I bought all my fabric for her dress...so onto making that now! :D

I am making my own mask froma 3 dollar job. How did you cut the mouth? I alter the mose and open the mouth so I can drink ;D. I open the eyes more too.

I like the eyelining effect. I use elmers glue to make the designs more 3D, and I use fewer lines.

I paint mine silver then add a tarnish effect.

Thanks. I used a simple exacto knife to cut the mouth. It surprisingly cut pretty easily through the plastic!

I was going to try and do the 3D effect like their masks, but I couldn't figure out a way to do it. How are you doing yours?

That mask is just fantastic. The cuts look great, and so do the colors.

Very nice! Where did you get the mask though? $5 or not, I can't find anything around here...

JoAnns! I was really surprised to find it there. At our store they had in the aisle with feather boas. :) Good luck!!

woo way to go! That mask looks so cool. I gotta ask too, how in the world did you do the mouth? I would think the plastic would be hard to cut there.

I'm working on a Bellatrix costume too, so don't mind if I oggle our progress endlessly XD This mask is really great. What fabric did you end up buying? I just got mind last week.

Thanks!!! :D I used an exacto knife which ended up cutting really easy through the plastic. The plastic ended up being pretty sensitive to it, so I had to be careful not to cut one big slit. LOL.

Awesome!! I look forward to seeing your progress too! Bella has been pretty fun so far. The fabric I got...I don't really know the name of it, but its lightweight, crumpled and old looking black fabric. I tried to find some that was as sheer as I possibly could. I also got some tulle for the skirt. :)

Wow! Very nice! Did you use reference shots of Bella's mask from the movie, or is this your take on what it should look like? I totally need to see OotP again, because if it is like the one seen in the movies, I can't even remember it!

Very well done!

Thanks so much!!

I don't believe they ever show her mask in the film (I could be wrong), but I found reference photos of the Death Eaters masks, including two that might be Bella's and just chose the one I thought looked more feminine out of the two. :)

That looks awesome! The larger designs on the nose do indeed make it look wider. On my monitor, at least. Well done!

Woh! It looks good IMHO.

Heehee....you can actually use it as a Tutorial for those making their own Mask using the Basic Plastic Mask. -__^ (I'm saving it btw)
